In celebration of the 55th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Canada, the ‘Friendship Cup’ Chinese Speech Contest for Elementary and Secondary School Students, hosted by the Chinese Consulate General in Calgary, is now open for registration. Details are as follows:
I. Themes:
i. For the secondary school groups: The Power of Friendship
ii. For the elementary school groups: My Friend and Me
II. Groups & Eligibility:
i. Secondary School Group A:
1. Currently enrolled in a junior high or high school in AB, SK, or NWT (grades 7–12)
2. Either parent or both parents are native speakers of the Chinese language
ii. Secondary School Group B:
1. Currently enrolled in a junior high or high school in AB, SK, or NWT (grades 7–12)
2. Neither of parents is a native speaker of the Chinese language
iii. Elementary School Group A:
1. Currently enrolled in an elementary school in AB, SK or NWT (grades 1-6)
2. Either parent or both parents are native speakers of the Chinese language
iv. Elementary School Group B:
1. Currently enrolled in an elementary school in AB, SK or NWT (grades 1-6)
2. Neither of parents is a native speaker of the Chinese language
III. Stages & Contents:
i. Preliminary Round:
Participants are required to submit a signed copy of the registration form (a scanned pdf or a picture), a video recording, and one personal photo taken recently by September 21, 2025, to chinesebridgealberta@gmail.com
Requirements for the video recording:
1. Duration is 2-3 minutes
2. On the themes of The Power of Friendship (Secondary School Groups A and B), and My Friend and Me (Elementary School Groups A and B)(competitors choose their own styles and topics)
ii. Finals
To be held in Calgary in early or mid-October. Shortlisted candidates will receive further details.
IV. Awards: There will be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes, along with awards of excellence for all groups. Winners get certificates and prizes.
