On September 17, 2026, the Chinese Consulate General in Calgary and the Hong Kong-Canada Business Association (HKCBA) Calgary Chapter co-hosted a seminar titled “Where Policy Meets Market: What China’s 15th Five-Year Plan Could Mean for Alberta Enterprises”.

The event brought together more than 80 representatives from government, business and academia, including Alberta’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, as well as representatives from the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council.

Consul General Zhao Liying introduced key priorities of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan and the first Five-Year Plan of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. She highlighted the significant potential for deepening cooperation between China and Canada, particularly Alberta, in key areas, and expressed hope that the participants from various sectors in the consular district would seize the opportunities and bring China-Canada cooperation in energy, agriculture, people-to-people exchanges and subnational cooperation to a new level.
Participants spoke highly of the recent progress in China-Canada cooperation and engaged in in-depth discussions on further expanding practical cooperation between the two countries.
