Calgary in China Red in Celebration of The Year of the Dog
2018-02-27 14:09

Speaking of the most favorable color of the Chinese people, China red always wins the game. Commonly seen in Chinese cultural totems, the color red stands for joy, liveliness, auspiciousness and harmony.

In order to celebrate the coming of the Chinese Lunar New Year and the official launching of 2018 China-Canada Year of Tourism, the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Calgary worked collaboratively with Tourism Calgary to hold a “Lighting Up Calgary in China Red” ceremony on the evening of February 16th, the first day of the Chinese Lunar New Year.

At around 6 PM of February 16th, Calgary Tower, Reconciliation Bridge, Glenbow Museum, Arts Commons, Stephen Avenue Galleria Trees, Olympic Plaza, and Telus Spark were painted in China red by lights. The bright color not only set a rich tone of festive celebration, but also attracted a large number of Calgarians and tourists. The ceremony was live broadcasted by CTV. The host also invited the Consulate General staff and their family members to present their new year greetings across.
